IHA Memo: DHS COVID-19 Funding Opportunity
November 20, 2020
MEMORANDUM
In acknowledgment that admissions to civil units within Illinois’ six State-Operated Psychiatric Hospitals (SOPHs) are slower than normal due to COVID-19 precautions, the Illinois Dept. of Human Services (DHS) will temporarily provide a funding opportunity to community hospitals for individuals who are both unfunded and would otherwise have been admitted to an SOPH civil unit. DHS has shared the following Communication Alerts on non-profit and investor-owned hospital funding availability for inpatient psychiatric treatment days from Nov. 20 through Dec. 30, following contract approval
- Communication Alert: Community Hospital Funding Summary
- Communication Alert: Hospital Instructions for Applying for Unfunded Patient Payment
See the Alerts for background and DHS contact information to request funding. Because DHS will be utilizing federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds , which must be spent by Dec. 30, it is important to note that this emergency funding will not continue past the applicable dates.
