State, National and Global COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,178 new COVID-19 cases and 39 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 113,195 in 100 counties, with a total of 4,923 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 17,230 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 6.8%. The average positivity rate for the last seven days is 9.2%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours increased from 3,763 patients to 3,788 patients (about 1,200 fewer patients than six weeks ago). Of that figure, 1,035 patients are in the ICU, with 590 patients on ventilators.
Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 1.66 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. in 55 states and U.S. territories, with 98,261 deaths.
As of Monday, the WHO Situation Report showed more than 5.3 million COVID-19 cases globally, with over 342,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with nearly 2.4 million cases and over 141,000 deaths.
