The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 1,532 new COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 168,457 in 102 counties, with a total of 7,385 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 44,330 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 3.4%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from July 17 to July 23 is 3.4%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 1,473 patients to 1,471 patients. Of that figure, 325 patients were in the ICU, with 115 patients on ventilators.
The Pritzker Administration announced that the state will distribute more than 60,000 cloth masks to state agencies, boards and commissions to protect the health and safety of employees returning to the workplace. All state employees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while at their worksites.
Today’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 4 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 143,868 deaths.
Today’s WHO Coronavirus Disease Dashboard shows more than 15.2 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 628,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 8.1 million cases and more than 325,000 deaths.
