The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 2,084 new COVID-19 cases (first time over 2,000 new cases since May 24) and 21 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 190,508 in 102 counties, with a total of 7,613 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 46,869 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 4.4%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from July 31 to August 6 is 4.1%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 1,517 patients to 1,486 patients. Of that figure, 333 patients were in the ICU, with 125 patients on ventilators.
Thursday’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures showed more than 4.8 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 157,631 deaths.
Today’s WHO Coronavirus Disease Dashboard shows more than 18.9 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 709,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 10.1 million cases and more than 376,000 deaths.
