The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 473 new COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths (yesterday’s and today’s numbers were the lowest one-day numbers reported since April 2). The total number of cases in the state is 133,016 in 101 counties, with a total of 6,326 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 18,627 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 2.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from June 8 to June 14 is 3%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours increased from 1,914 patients to 1,961 patients. Of that figure, 569 patients are in the ICU, with 340 patients on ventilators.
Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show nearly 2.1 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 115,644 deaths.
As of Sunday, the WHO Situation Report showed nearly 7.7 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 427,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 3.7 million cases and more than 199,000 deaths.
