State, National, Global COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 692 new COVID-19 cases and 44 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 135,470 in 101 counties, with a total of 6,580 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 27,171 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 2.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from June 12 to June 18 is 3%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 1,878 patients to 1,837 patients. Of that figure, 512 patients are in the ICU, with 293 patients on ventilators.
Today’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures showed more than 2.17 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 118,365 deaths.
Today’s WHO Situation Report shows more than 8.3 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 450,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with nearly 4.1 million cases and more than 212,000 deaths.
