National COVID-19 Update

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show a total of 746,625 confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. in 55 states and U.S. territories, with 39,083 deaths. New York state leads the nation with more than 238,000 cases, followed by New Jersey which has more than 85,000 cases and Massachusetts which has more than 38,000 cases.

An early release of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report reports that the daily number of cleaner and disinfectant exposures nationally to poison centers has increased 20%. This increase is attributed to the COVID-19 crisis. The Illinois Poison Center reports cleaning product exposures are up 30% compared to last year. 

FEMA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are collecting and sharing COVID-19 best practices and lessons learned from the whole-of-America response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  The best practices are intended to help medical practitioners, emergency managers, and other critical stakeholders learn from each other’s approaches and apply solutions to current response and recovery operations.

The latest WHO situation report shows more than 2.31 million COVID-19 cases globally, with over 157,000 deaths. The European Region leads the world in cases and deaths, with more than 1.14 million confirmed cases with over 103,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) follows, reporting more than 858,000 cases and more than 40,000 deaths.
