National COVID-19 Update

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show a total of 163,539 confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. in 55 states and U.S. territories, with 2,860 deaths. New York state leads the nation with more than 67,000 cases, followed by New Jersey which has more than 18,000 cases and California which has more than 6,900 cases.

Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte, N.C.) has developed a hospital blueprint for handling essential operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The document “Maximizing the Calm Before the Storm: Tiered Surgical Response Plan for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)” was published on  the American College of Surgeons website ahead of print publication in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
