National COVID-19 Update

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 1.36 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. in 55 states and U.S. territories, with 82,246 deaths. New York state leads the nation with more than 336,000 cases, followed by New Jersey which has more than 140,000 cases. There are 26 states reporting more than 10,000 cases of COVID-19.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a new toolkit developed to aid nursing homes, Governors, states, departments of health, and other agencies who provide oversight and assistance to these facilities, with additional resources to aid in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic within nursing homes. The toolkit is comprised of best practices from a variety of front line health care providers, Governors’ COVID-19 task forces, associations and other organizations, and experts, and is intended to serve as a catalogue of resources dedicated to addressing the specific challenges facing nursing homes as they combat COVID-19.
The latest WHO situation report shows more than 4.17 million COVID-19 cases globally, with over 287,000 deaths. With more than 1.78 million cases and over 106,000 deaths, the Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) now leads the world in cases and deaths. The European Region, now second in the world, has more than 1.74 million cases and more than 159,000 deaths.
