Illinois COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 2,563 new COVID-19 cases and 141 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 52,918 in 97 counties, with a total of 2,355 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 13,200 specimens have been processed. IDPH Director Ngozi Ezike, M.D., said that in the past 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased from 5,036 to 4,953. Of that figure, 1,289 patients are in ICU with 785 patients on ventilators.
At his daily press briefing, Governor J.B. Pritzker noted that the number of public COVID-19 testing facilities statewide is now 177, up from 112 last week. Two new additional drive-thru state-run testing locations will open next week in Waukegan and East St. Louis.
