Illinois COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,677 new COVID-19 cases and 192 deaths—the highest 24-death total thus far. The total number of cases in the state is 84,698 in 99 counties, with a total of 3,792 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 17,668 specimens have been processed. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 decreased from 4,626 patients to 4,563 patients. Of that figure, 1,208 patients are in ICU with 714 patients on ventilators. The state has a COVID-19 positivity rate of 17% (May 3-10).
For a limited time, rides to and from Chicago respite hotels for healthcare workers are being generously offered for free by Uber, using promotional codes that will be provided upon request. These codes are available for personnel through the Uber app, with limited transportation options, traveling to and from their work location and the hotel. Those who are in need of promotional codes and are registered to stay in a respite hotel, should request one by emailing EOCHousing@cityofchicago.org. Please provide your name, employer, hotel and how many trips you will need. Once your request is verified, codes and instructions will be emailed to you.
