IHA Update on Unemployment Claims
April 14, 2020
In early April, the U.S. Department of Labor issued a notice stipulating that each state will be coming up with their unemployment claim plan(s). The guidance notes that federal law provides states with significant flexibility to amend their laws to provide unemployment insurance benefits in multiple scenarios related to COVID-19.
IHA has reached out to the Illinois Dept. of Employment Security (IDES) and the Governor’s office to see how unemployment claims related to COVID-19 will be handled, specially related to the impact on reimbursable employers (i.e. not taxed). IDES has been updating its website regularly.
Key IDES member resources include:
COVID-19 FAQs for Employers; and
COVID-19 FAQs for Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.
