More FDA Warnings on Contaminated Hand Sanitizers

Over the past several days, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued additional warnings about a sharp increase in hand sanitizer products that are labeled to contain ethanol (ethyl alcohol) but that have tested positive for methanol contamination. People ingesting hand sanitizer products contaminated with methanol has resulted in adverse events including blindness, hospitalizations and death. On a daily basis, FDA updates a list of hand sanitizers with potential methanol contamination.
