COMPdata Updates Chronic Conditions Dashboards with New Data Measures

Launched five years ago, Chronic Conditions Dashboards offered through COMPdata Informatics address the connection between patients with untreated or poorly managed chronic conditions and poorer health outcomes. Caring for these patients can require significant hospital resources. Based on user feedback, COMPdata has enhanced these critical dashboards with new data measures and multiple analytic approaches in a new, easy-to-use format.

The dashboards are based on 77 chronic conditions identified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. They provide insight into your patients’ conditions from a variety of perspectives and aid leadership staff in better understanding your patient population.

Dashboard enhancements include:

  • Prevalence and comorbidity counts, which are new to COMPdata;
  • Average charges, length of stay and analysis of hospital resources used, allowing you to compare data for patients with a specific condition to patients without the condition;
  • Analysis of population health;
  • Analysis of a specific chronic condition or comparison of all chronic conditions;
  • On-screen instructions and concise, easily accessible resource guides; and
  • Fewer selections needed to start the analysis.

Data for these dashboards come from discharged inpatient and outpatient cases, including emergency department patients. Trends in chronic conditions can be viewed quarterly or yearly, going back three years. The data can be filtered by hospital, county, ZIP code, patient age, race, gender and other dimensions.

We encourage COMPdata users to explore the enhanced Chronic Conditions Dashboards. Information on chronic conditions can be a key component of your business development, planning and quality improvement efforts.
